Hogs for the cause was founded by Becker Hall and Rene Louapre as an idea to recreate the pig roasts so often encountered around the South.
The Cause has slightly morphed into a non-profit organization that seeks to combine the community and frivolity of a gathering with the Man for Others ethos instilled in us by Jesuit High School.
Becker Hall and Rene Louapre grew up on the same block in the mean streets of Old Metairie, LA or the 'O.M' to locals. The "Brocken-Bros" both graduated from Jesuit High School in New Orleans and left the city for college, but the love for New Orleans brought them back to assume their professional careers. Together these two self-proclaimed virtuosos of drivel and balderdash amass a veritable pantheon of culinary skills and automatic good times.
Becker, a staunch opponent of carbohydrates, became enamored with pig roasting while attending the University of South Carolina. Before almost every home football game, his fraternity would smoke pigs for everyone to enjoy before the game the following day. While it was not out of the ordinary for Becker to don the head of the pig on top of his own, he prides himself to having graduated to only consuming pork now (unless it is a particularly cold day.)
Rene, save a quick and frightening bout with vegetarianism involving a salad bar at a German Techno Club , has always viewed the pig with a deep love. In fact, Rene named his first child The Little Piggy That Ran All The Way Home after his favorite toe related children's game. And by children he means, basset hounds. Rene operates a highly successful tax evasion, Ponzi scheme based on food and restaurants in New Orleans known as an internet based, world wide web log. The short name is a "blog"; the long name is blackenedout.
